Cruelty-free Toiletries – Our Top Picks!

by | Nov 11, 2017 | Blog |

While you likely think long and hard about the contents of the food items you put into your mouth, how much thought do you give to the products lining your bathroom shelves? Is your toothpaste vegan? Is your moisturiser cruelty-free? Is your deodorant natural? Are the ingredients sustainable?

Here we have compiled a list of some of the vegan toiletries’ brands that will be exhibiting at this year’s festival and discuss what ingredients their products contain, or more importantly what they DON’T contain!

Grants of Australia – (toothpaste and mouthwash)

Owned by the same parent company as Dr Bronner’s, the Grants of Australia Oral Care range is Certified Vegan by the Vegan Awareness Foundation. Their oral care range includes natural toothpaste and mouthwash. Their toothpaste comes in several flavours: fresh mint, mild mint, cinnamon, xylitol and blueberry burst for the kids.

Most mainstream toothpastes contain a list of toxic ingredients that are harmful to ingest and get absorbed into your body through your gums, even though you spit most of it out. This includes artificial sweeteners, dyes, colours and foaming agents. Natural toothpastes are just as good at protecting and cleaning your pearly whites without exposing you to nasty chemicals in the process. They use herbal and plant-based ingredients such as aloe vera and xylitol.

In addition to being available at local health food stores and independent supermarkets, Grants of Australia is the only vegan toothpaste that is easily available right across Australia at Coles supermarkets and selected Woolworths supermarkets.

Earthlette Pit Paste (deodorant)

Founder of Earthlette, Jemma Keeves, developed this product after developing an irritation from a store-bought deodorant.

“I started investigating natural alternatives. I was so happy with what I had developed and how effective it was, that I decided I had to share this with my friends and family.”

Earthlette Pit Paste is made with a unique blend of essential oils, included not only for their scent, but for their antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which assist in eliminating the body odour caused by sweat. Jemma explains that sweat itself does not smell and the bad odour is caused by bacteria on the skin’s surface interacting with fats and proteins in the sweat secretion. The 100% natural deodorant works by minimising the amount of bacteria in your armpit, therefore reducing the odour. Some of the other natural ingredients that this amazing smelling product contains are coconut oil, shea butter, arrowroot flour, clay powder and vitamin E.
